Salsa in Cape Town - South Africa

So yesterday I arrived to Cape Town. I had a long flight from Amsterdam but I'm glad to finally arrive to my destination.

Today I had a dinner meeting with a friend from Austria and we went out to a Cuban restaurant that had some Salsa Dancing. The name of the restaurant is Buena Vista Social Club.

We went to the restaurant and it was packed. We waited a while until a table was available. The dinner was good and the wine and mojitos were even better. :-) Towards the end of the night we moved inside the restaurant and they had a little space for dancing. I ventured out and had a couple of dances and really enjoyed myself. After a couple more mojitos I danced a few more songs and then it was time to head out.

After getting back to the hotel, I found out that Buena Vista is the best place to go Salsa Dancing on Sunday nights. Too bad that I leave next Sunday.

Salsa and Politics - Is this a good mix?

So today I got this in my inbox:

Salsa Lovers For Kerry-Edwards Fundraiser at H2O Tue. Oct 26
Eddie Moore & Eileen Torres host the "Salsa Lovers for Kerry-Edwards" Fundraiser Tuesday, October 26 from 7:30-midnight at H2O-800 Water St. SW, Wash. DC 20024. Music is provided by the top salsa DJs in our area. Minimum donation is $10 with a goal of raising $5,000. Please demonstrate your financial support and lend your energy to this crucially important effort. Further details Monday.

Now is it me or are the elections just another marketing opportunity like Halloween, etc.? Where is the SALSA LOVERS FOR BUSH-CHENNEY? Will this be held at some other club?

I'd be interested to hear how the $5,000 is going to be contributed.

My personal view is that Salsa and Politics should not be mixed. A more appropriate promotion would have been Salsa Lovers for Voting, where voting in the elections is promoted rather than any political party. (just my thoughts)

Let's see how that event folds out.

So today I was looking for a place that may have salsa clothing. Of course one of the first things I did was to type http://www.SalsaWear.com in my browser. I ended up at this place and it seems that it is still under construction. I hope that they'll open soon so that I can see their selection.

Ok..now I'm in Bangkok, Thailand. An old friend of mine told me to go to "La Rueda".

La Rueda is a small and cozy place to dance salsa. Tonight it wasn't too crowded so the dancing was good. The only thing I didn't like too much was that it gets too hot, but I was able to manage.

I'm currently in India. Delhi to be exact.

After having a couple of good days of meetings, I'm ready for some salsa dancing. I searched the net and found a place called SSTEEL.

I made sure that I called the place before venturing to this place and they did confirm that Wednesdays is Salsa Night. I arrived around 10:30PM and was greeted by an unfriendly bouncer who told me that they only allow couples to go inside. As you could imagine, I was shocked and dissapointed. I tried to tell him that I was visiting from out of the country but the unfriendly bouncer kept saying "no stags allowed".

If the flyers, website and even the phone call that I made before going to the venue would have mentioned their rule about "couples" I would not have been upset but as you can clearly see http://www.salsa-india.com/parties_specials2.html, their flyer does not say anything about this rule. Needless to say I was very dissapointed and hope that things change in the future for other salsa-travellers that end up in Delhi.

Sure enough...I came back to Qba....this place rocks. Or should I say..this place salsas!!

This time around I saw some of the more experienced dancers from Latinos. The band was good but they play some of the same songs as the previous nights.

If you ever make it to Kuala Lumpur, go to Qba and enjoy a nice night of dancing.

Today I went over to Qba at the Westin Hotel.

This is a much smaller place than Latinos but for some reason I like it much better. They also have a live band and the atmosphere is really great.

The outside seating is really great...kind of gives you the impression of being in Cuba if you ignore all the tall buildings in the surrounding area. :-)

I think I'll be coming back to this place again.

Just arrived to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I checked into my hotel and quickly found out where to go Salsa dancing.

The concierge recomended two places:

- Latinos - Mutiara Hotel
- Qba - Westin Hotel

Today I decided to go to Latinos and I had a good time. The dance floor is spaciuos and they have a live band. The DJ music was good as well.

The only strange thing was that just around 1:30am, the format completely changes....it becomes a hip-hop night. So after 1:30am, there is no longer Salsa.

So here I am...in Tokyo, Japan. I've had the chance to make it back to Tokyo and as always I ended up in Roppongi.

I went back to my favourite salsa club in Roppongi. "SalsaCaribe", this time around it wasn't as crowded as before because it was already past midningt and people leave early in order to catch the last train.

Tomorrow I'll try to make it here earlier.
